How often are you reaching into your spice cabinet each day? I’d be willing to guess at least once, but the truth is, if you are the cook of the family, it’s probably way more.
That’s why I wanted to give my spice cabinet a little love. The tiniest of makeovers can go a long way in making mundane tasks feel just a little more delightful.

Spice Cabinet Organization Ideas
Clearing out the clutter may be all it takes for you to get that much-needed refresh you’ve been looking for. You can pick up some inexpensive organizational systems at TJ Maxx or Home Goods that will keep your spice cabinet functional and easy to maintain. These are my favorite spice cabinet organization ideas…
1. 3-tier spice shelves
Organize your spice rack with the most frequently used spices in the front and a 3-tier spice shelf will make it easier to reach for those hidden little jars in the back. Keep reading to find out my complaint (and solution) for these…
2. Turntables
Lazy Susan-inspired turntables are a game-changer for accessing cooking oils and larger spice containers! They come in a variety of styles and sizes, so be sure to measure your cabinet space beforehand. You wouldn’t want to get a 12-inch turntable for your 9-inch cabinet… it’s me, I accidentally did that.
3. Sealed containers
Use large sealed containers to keep your flours and sugars fresh. If you don’t go through your baking ingredients very quickly, you should use a dry erase marker or stick a piece of tape on the bottom of the containers to indicate the expiration date.
4. Clear plastic containers
Clear plastic containers are perfect for miscellaneous items like special seasoning packets or spice refills.
5. Matching Spice Jars
Matching spice jars are pretty and functional.
How To Organize Your Spice Jars
Even with 3-tier spice shelves, it’s difficult to read the spice labels beyond the first row. That’s largely because spice jars from the grocery store often have the label down at the center of the container (which is not very helpful when you can only see the top of the bottle).
So I finally decided to solve that problem and make my own. I specifically wanted jars with a simple label that would fit at the top. Plus who doesn’t love an old-school label maker?!
There are tons of spice jar sets available online. Most of them come with labels and a funnel to easily transfer your spices.
Tips for making the swap:
1. Check expiration dates. Toss old spices or the ones you never use. Make a list of staple spices that you need to replace. Now you know how many spice jars to get.
2. Make sure your spice set comes with a funnel, shaker tops under the lid, and labels (unless you want to make your own). I selected round glass bottles so my custom labels would fit without getting cut off.
3. Even with the funnel, you’ll want to avoid clumpy spills by mixing the spice before pouring.
4. If there is an allergy concern, wipe or rinse your funnel clean each time so there is no cross-contamination. Although it shouldn’t affect the taste.
I wish that I did this a long time ago! It’s so much easier to quickly find what I need when I am cooking. Without the giant label, I can also assess how much is left. And if nothing else, matching spice jars are just pretty to look at! I love the sense of order and minimalist style.

Here’s the thing, you don’t need a “Pinterest perfect” home (or organized spice cabinet) in order to enjoy it. Our hearts are better served through a contented spirit that is focused on the souls and experiences dwelling within it, not the stuff.
But with that said, we can do simple things to help us find delight in the mundane. As caretakers of the home, nurturing the little details of it with a thoughtful heart is so rewarding.
