Neutral Playroom Decor | Our Playroom Tour

Our playroom is finished and it has been one of my favorite rooms to design so far! I think I say that every time 😅 But seriously…

I’m sure this has a little to do with my teaching background. There is something so special about intentionally planning a space for a child. A space where play meets learning and development.

I moved classrooms 3 different times while teaching. And while some would consider that a massive headache, I loved the opportunity to makeover a new space 😅  foreshadowing much?

Neutral Playroom Decor | Our Playroom Tour

I love the decorative aspects of the room. But the real joy comes from dedicating a special place for my daughter to explore, play, and grow developmentally.

Not that you need an entire room to do that, of course. Learning and exploration happens anywhere and everywhere!

But this is what’s worked out for us in this season. And I’m so thankful for it! I hope you find a little idea or something here that could work for your family too 😊

I wanted the layout of the room to make sense through the eyes of a toddler. Everything is low, orderly, and accessible. There is a little reading area, arts & crafts table, and toy shelf.

Eventually, I will add a little kitchen area and dress-up station.

The craft table doubles as a sensory table. It has a reversible dry erase board and chalkboard tabletop. It was a little pricier than I would normally like to spend, but it offers so many uses all rolled into one. Well worth it!!

I found this little rocking chair at the thrift store for $10. It was bright blue, so I spray painted it matte clamshell to fit with the neutral playroom decor.

We use a Montessori-inspired toy rotation system. Too many choices can be overwhelming for a child. So every other week I swap out the toys on the shelf for different toys that have been tucked away in a closet.

This reduces clutter, and helps renew your child’s engagement and curiosity. If you feel like your child is getting bored with their toys- I can’t recommend this approach enough.  You can read more about the benefits of toy rotating here.

Our built-ins were a recent DIY project that you can read more about / here /. I am SO glad we did it! You can’t have too much storage in a playroom.
