5 Entryway Styling Tips | Our Entryway Reveal
Nothing says welcome home like a styled entryway! And I am so excited to share how ours has turned out. It’s a small space, but plays a big role in making our main living area feel more complete. It started with our DIY board and batten accent wall /read more here/. Which created a cool backdrop for better defining the area.
Whether it be a grand foyer or a smaller entryway, this area presents an opportunity to set a happy first impression for the home. So along with inviting you into our entryway, I am sharing 5 fun entryway styling tips to help you design your entryway.

1 || Less isn’t always more.
I fell in love with this entryway table right away. However, our entryway is narrow, so I wasn’t too confident that I would be able to fit much of anything there. So the search began for a smaller table that would take up less space than the one I originally wanted.
After measuring and remeasuring, I finally convinced myself to just go for it and bought the bigger entryway table that I had liked all along /shop here/. I told Zach (and myself) that if it felt too cramped after a week, I would return it. Trying things out, or as I like to call it “letting things breathe” is a comfort to my indecisiveness 😆
It turns out that this larger table makes the space feel bigger. Think of it like staging an empty home… the rooms feel bigger when there is furniture that distinguishes the scale of the space.
So while your home may not have a large entryway, you may be able to fit more than you may think. Just make sure it doesn’t interfere with the functionality of foot traffic. Outline painters tape on the floor to visualize the flow when shopping online for entryway furniture.
2 || Mirrors are multipurpose.
“But why do we need another mirror?” is the question I received from my husband when I first started styling our entryway 🤪
Well, you can see how that conversation turned out 😂 But seriously, it’s because mirrors are multipurpose!
A decorative mirror is like a good piece of art that draws your attention and balances a space. Not only that, but it bounces light around to brighten the room. It also tricks the eye into making a small space look larger.
Let’s not forget that it’s quite convenient for a quick reflection check before running out the door.
3 || A rug or runner defines the space.
Incorporating a small rug or runner sets your entryway apart from the rest of the house, making it feel complete from the ground up.
This cozy element is an opportunity to add warmth and texture to your design. Choose a style or material that will hold up over time so you’re not worried about wear and tear in a high-traffic area.
4 || Lighting is like the jewelry of the home.
Lighting is so important! It’s the finishing touch that sets a certain tone for the room. Like a pair of earrings, a particular light fixture can make everything with it feels more formal or casual.
Use lighting as an opportunity to express your design style. Whether that be a custom overhead light fixture or a bold table lamp. This will create a special first impression for your home.
5 || Keep things interesting with different decorative items.
By this point you have all the primary essentials for an inviting entryway, so now it’s time to finish styling it!
Finish the design by layering in smaller, decorative items. Things like baskets and bowls can be used for storage. Fill a vase with seasonal stems for a fresh look all year.
Add dimension with smaller art, picture frames, candles, or books. I love rotating these smaller, less-expensive pieces in and out to keep the entryway new and interesting. Even an entryway bench can be refreshed with a seasonal pillow or blanket.
