A Brother and Sister Shared Bedroom

Hi love,

There’s just something so special to me about this little room.

So allow me to back up…

What started as a practical shift in our home—making space for a nursery for the baby- turned into one of the sweetest seasons for our family. Our 5-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son now share this room, and I don’t think any of us expected just how much we would all love it. They love being together. And more than that, I can already see how it’s deepened their bond in the sweetest of ways—whispering at bedtime, waking up in the same space, just doing life side by side.

I know it won’t always be this way. The plan, eventually, is to transition the nursery into a shared room for our two youngest boys once the baby is a little older and sleeping through the night. But for now, this feels like a little window in time that I don’t want to rush past.

When I was thinking about how I wanted this room to feel, I kept coming back to the idea of a collected, nostalgic childhood. Not overly styled. Not too themed. Just layered and personal—like a space that’s been built slowly over time.

We added the 3-quarter wall board and batten around the room, which instantly gave it that classic, grounded feel. The lower portion is painted Light Blue by Farrow & Ball, and the upper walls are White Dove by Benjamin Moore—a pairing that feels soft and timeless. And Light Blue… it’s one of those chameleon colors that shifts throughout the day—sometimes reading more blue, sometimes a little green, or even a soft gray depending on the light. It keeps the room feeling interesting without ever being loud.

Because it’s a shared space between a boy and a girl, I didn’t want to divide the room or make it feel overly “his” or “hers.” Instead, I let their personalities come through in smaller, more flexible ways. She’s currently in her Barbie and princess era, so her sheets reflects that. He has the sweetest vintage baseball and sports sheets. Nothing matches perfectly—and that’s exactly the point. It feels like them.

This room wasn’t meant to be anything extraordinary. But somehow, it’s become one of my favorite places in our home. Not because of the paint or the paneling or even the design—but because of what’s happening inside of it. The laughter, the closeness, the way they’re growing together in this shared space. It feels like something I’ll look back on one day and miss more than I expect.

I’m so glad you’re here & xx until the next letter.
