Lemons are powerful, natural cleaning agents. The acidic properties of lemons act tough on stains and neutralize lingering odors.
While lemons do not kill germs like a disinfectant, they are antibacterial. Their acidity creates an environment where many kinds of bacteria are unlikely to thrive. Including those that cause salmonella and E. coli.
And you can feel better knowing that the place where you heat up food for you and your family is not covered in a residue of potentially harmful chemicals. Why risk it when you a naturally safe option that works just as well?
So, how exactly do you clean your microwave with a lemon?
How To Clean a Microwave With Lemon
You can easily clean your microwave with just a lemon, water, and sponge or washcloth.
Step 1: In a glass container, mix 1/2 cup water with one squeezed lemon.
This should give you about 4-5 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice. Throw the cut and squeezed lemon parts into the container as well.
Step 2: Put this in the microwave and run the cook time for 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
This will allow the water to get hot enough to create a steam that cleans the microwave naturally with minimal effort.
Step 3: Let the lemon mixture sit in the microwave for an additional 5 minutes.
Keep the microwave door closed. The steam will help loosen difficult microwave stains and allow you to easily wipe clean after.
Step 4: Carefully remove the container and turntable to clean.
Use a washcloth or sponge to quickly wipe clean all walls of the microwave. Clean the door and turntable also. For stubborn stains, dip the washcloth into the lemon water and scrub.
Step 5: Replace turntable, close door, and finally wipe down the front of your microwave.
Other Lemon Cleaning Hacks for the Kitchen
-Clean your garbage disposal.
Wash the remaining lemon parts and hot water down the garbage disposal to deodorize your sink. Not only are you left with a fresh scent, but this will help loosen any grease build-up from your drain.
-Make your sink faucet sparkle.
Get rid of hard water buildup from your sink faucet by wiping or spraying it with lemon juice. Wait about 10 minutes before wiping clean with a warm, soapy washcloth.

-Keep bugs and insects out of the kitchen.
Squeeze and rub a little lemon juice over doors and windowsills to repel pesky insects from wanting to come inside. This is naturally safe and ideal when you have pets or children.
-Deep clean your oven.
Many oven cleaners have toxic chemicals that are intensified when heated on the oven cleaning cycle. Try cleaning your oven with a lemon instead. This is very similar to cleaning your microwave with lemon.
Fill an oven-safe baking dish with water, squeezed lemon juice, and the lemon parts. Bake for 1 hour at 250 degrees. Turn the oven off and leave the dish inside while cooling.
After the oven has cooled, remove the dish and scrub remaining grime from oven racks and interior walls with lemon water. Wipe dry.
