Concern for Household Cleaners
I have always preferred more natural cleaning products, but I knew that I wanted to do better for our home when our daughter was born. We know not to let little hands wander into the cleaning supplies, but what about the lingering chemicals left on surfaces or in the air after use? This type of passive consumption is less discussed, but nevertheless a problem.
Commercial household cleaning products play a big role in harming indoor air-quality and impacting our health. These common cleaners are filled with chemicals that emit high concentrations of toxins and pollutants.
And, truly, we don’t even know the half of it because manufacturers are not even legally required to list all the harmful ingredients in their products. Even the products advertised as “green” are not always safer if you check out the ingredients that are listed.
So what can we do? We can do our best to take baby steps forward and make positive swaps when possible…
Like this. Start with your most basic cleaner. This natural DIY cleaning spray is a safer cleaning alternative that will do the trick for the majority of your everyday cleaning needs. It’s so easy to make and you can feel better knowing that you are using simple, clean ingredients that are much safer for your family.
Natural Cleaning
Baking soda works well for scrubbing stubborn spots. A simple vinegar and water mixture can clean glass. Sanitize baby toys with boiling water. There are countless natural cleaning remedies right under your nose, if you just know how to use them.
This all-purpose cleaning recipe is made up of vinegar, water, and tea tree oil.
The acetic acid of vinegar works wonders for cleaning and disinfecting. Distilled white vinegar kills bacteria and breaks down dirt, grease, and grime. It can be used to clean doorknobs, cookware, appliances, glass- and that’s just the start.
Tea tree oil is known as nature’s disinfectant. It kills viruses, mildew, and bacteria. Unlike bleach, tea tree oil will keep your DIY cleaning spray totally safe from air to surface. If you need some, you can shop an affordable option /here/.
When you do have to use potentially toxic products while cleaning, open the windows and doors. Homes need to breathe. It will keep air circulating and fresh for you and your family.
