The Murphy Bed That Helped Us Say “Yes” to Hosting

I partnered with Wayfair to bring you this blog post.

Using Your Space Wisely (while still having a heart for hospitality)

In our last home, we chose to make space for what we needed most day-to-day—a playroom—but I never wanted to lose the ability to truly welcome people in. Hospitality matters deeply to me, and I’ve always believed guests should feel like there’s a place prepared just for them.

That’s why adding a Murphy bed to our bonus room felt like the perfect solution. It allowed the space to serve our family well most of the time, while still transforming into a cozy, intentional place for guests when needed. There’s something really special about being able to say “yes” to hosting without needing an entire room dedicated to it year-round.

Murphy beds have become such a thoughtful way to bridge that gap—blending function and beauty while helping you use your home well. They fold away seamlessly when not in use, but when pulled down, they create a space that feels just as warm and welcoming as any guest room.

Installation (honest take)

I won’t pretend this was the easiest project we’ve ever done—putting the Murphy bed together definitely took some patience. There were a few moments of double-checking instructions, figuring out alignment, and realizing pretty quickly that this is not a one-person job. Having an extra set of hands made all the difference.

That said, once everything was in place and secured properly, it was so worth it. Seeing the room transform and knowing we now had a functional, welcoming space for guests made the effort feel like a really good investment.

If DIY isn’t your thing, bringing in a handyman is a great option—but if you’re willing to take your time with it, it’s absolutely doable and incredibly rewarding in the end.

Advantages

A Murphy bed is such a smart way to make the most of your space without sacrificing comfort or style. When it’s tucked away, the room can function as whatever you need most—an office, playroom, or everyday living space—while still offering a truly comfortable place for guests when it’s pulled down. Many designs also include built-in storage or shelving, which adds even more functionality and helps everything feel intentional and cohesive. It’s a simple solution that allows your home to work harder for you, while still feeling warm and welcoming.
