Hi love,
I heard recently, “A Proverb a day keeps the foolishness away” which is kind of funny- but also so true! And it just so happens that there are 31 chapters in Proverbs and 30-31 days in a month. Which makes it such a seamless addition to your daily quiet time reading and something I love doing. And there’s a few verses in Proverbs 4 that’s been sitting with me lately—especially in this season of life.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it…
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.”
And I can’t help but think… this is a reminder so many of us can use. Because if there’s one thing that pulls at us constantly, it’s not always obvious destruction—it’s distraction. We wake up with good intentions- we want to be present, to steward our homes well, to love our families with care and purpose, but somewhere between the laundry and the notifications and the scroll… our eyes drift.
And slowly, almost without noticing, we begin to look to the right and the left and fall into comparison and questioning. We wonder if we’re doing enough… or doing it “right.”
But Scripture gently calls us back: Fix your gaze directly before you. Not on someone else’s home, pace, or calling. Because what’s in front of you right now—your home, your family, your season—was given to you.
And when we spend too much time allowing ourselves to be distracted, things can begin to unravel. Not just with the obvious like our productivity… but our peace. The tone of your voice, patience you offer, and overall atmosphere of your home. It all flows from what’s filling your mind.
And if your heart is tangled up in comparison and anxiousness about what you’re not doing… it becomes really hard to faithfully build what is in your hands. I’ve been reminded lately that homemaking doesn’t require perfection—but it does require focus. We don’t drift into strong homes. We build them. One small, faithful decision at a time.
And if I’m honest, the biggest shift for me has been remembering where my focus begins. Not with my phone or everything that needs to get done. But with the Word. Because when I start there—even in a small, quiet way—something changes. My perspective softens and my mind feels clearer. And the pull to compare loses its grip. It doesn’t suddenly make everything in my life perfect… but I remember what’s true. So let’s start creating instead of consuming or comparing. There is so much freedom in staying on your own assignment and being faithful with what’s in front of you.
So today, maybe it looks simple. Folding laundry with gratitude. Speaking gently when you’d rather rush. Putting your phone down and opening your Bible. Which may not feel impressive, but it is meaningful and it matters. So let’s gurad our hearts and fix our gaze. Let’s take the next faithful step in front of us. Not to the right or the left. Just forward.
I hope you’re encourage today and I am so glad you’re here,
Until the next letter xx-
