-
Plan Your Design
Before heading to Lowe’s, get clear on your vision. Do you want classic wainscoting, sleek modern panels, or charming decorative molding? Consider the existing style of your room and how the new molding will complement it. A little planning will ensure you select the right materials and quantities.
-
Shop Smart at Lowe’s

-
Gather Your Tools
The basic tools you’ll need include a miter saw, nail gun, measuring tape, and a level. If you’re new to molding, Lowe’s associates can guide you in selecting the right tools and accessories. They also offer tool rentals, which can save you money if you’re only tackling this project once.
-
Measure and Cut
Accurate measurements are crucial. I like to use painter’s tape to get a visual for how the molding will look. Measure the wall sections where the molding will go and cut the pieces accordingly. The miter saw is your best friend here, ensuring precise angles and clean cuts. Take your time with this step to ensure a perfect fit.

Install the Molding
Use a level to ensure it’s straight before securing it with a nail gun. Continue with the rest of the molding, working your way up and around the frame. Don’t rush—double-check your placement and alignment as you go.
-
Finish and Paint
Once the molding is installed, caulk and fill any nail holes with Dap wood filler. You can use a baby wipe to wipe the surface smooth. Then, it’s time to paint! Choose a color that complements your room’s palette or go bold with a contrasting hue. A fresh coat of paint will give your new molding a polished look.
We used the color Accessible Beige by Sherwin-Williams.
With new custom wall molding, your room will have a fresh, upscale look that’s uniquely yours. This DIY project not only adds visual interest but also makes your space feel more personalized and inviting.
